Welcome to the first installment of The Sage Glow Quiz. In this new series, I'm chatting with some of the rad babes I get to work with, sharing their insights, tips and tricks. I don't know about you, but I love learning about the lives of other women and celebrating our differences and similarities. It's like the old, fill-in-the-blank Cosmo quizzes (remember those?) but with a little Sage Glow spin.
First up is a creative, kind, bubbly soul I'm lucky enough to call a friend. About 10 years ago, I was searching for a hair stylist when a mutual friend recommended Natalie. We instantly hit it off and spent many hours discussing life, love and dreams over many different hair styles - long, short, bangs, blonde (blonde, you guys!), and one feather extension. Fast forward a few years, and I've watched this babe own her own business, kill it in the PR world and then start her fashion/lifestyle blog. Get a glimpse into her life below.
Name: Natalie Mazzarella Poulakos
What do you do? Publicist at SKOOG Productions + Blogger and Content Creator at Wear You Are Now
Where do you live? Boston, MA
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? Sleep is a precious, precious thing! In an effort not to disrupt that, I set my phone to “do not disturb” mode at night. So naturally, the first thing I do every morning is check my phone for missed alerts and to find out what’s waiting in my inbox. I like knowing what awaits me on the work front before I get my day up and running.
What’s your morning ritual? I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a morning person. I struggle through that first hour every day! I try to start my mornings with a bit of calm and mindfulness. I sit quietly with my cup of coffee before turning on my computer. I set my phone down for a few minutes. I don’t turn on the TV. I just try to still my mind before the craziness of the day kicks in.
What’s your bedtime ritual? My husband and I unwind with some quality couch potato time, I text my parents goodnight (they live 1,000 miles away and I like to stay connected!), organize my things for the next day and fall into bed.
Can’t live without your: husband/coffee/camera (in that order!)
Workout of choice: I love anything that really makes me break into a sweat. I take Zumba and Burn classes when I can squeeze them in, but most days you’ll find me doing some form of cardio followed by weight lifting/circuit training. Watching myself progress by increasing reps and weight lifted makes me feel like a power house!
Talk beauty products: what are your daily go-to’s? I often joke that on any given day I’m about 80% dry shampoo - which is probably more accurate than I care to admit. My favorites are PSSSST! Instant Dry Shampoo and TRESemme Volumizing Dry Shampoo. I also swear by Clinique’s Moisture Surge 72- Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. It literally feels like giving your face a glass of water.
Signature uniform: Distressed denim, stripes, a classic black blazer and red lipstick
No-fail smoothie combo: Banana, almond milk, almond butter, kale and cinnamon
5 things always in your pantry: Coconut milk, fresh veggies, Greek yogurt, raw nuts and eggs. Simplicity is key!
Favorite snack: Hummus & veggies
Favorite local restaurant: Kava Neo-Taverna, a tiny Greek restaurant in Boston’s South End. The food is incredible and it reminds me so much of my time spent abroad in the Mediterranean!
Beach or mountains? Beach, please! All day, every day.
Favorite place in the world: Cape Cod. We spend every 4th of July there and it has quickly become one of my favorite places in the world. Give me sunshine, sand, lobster and ice cream and I’m on board!
Usually on your Spotify: Elton John, Sam Cooke, Queen, Cat Stevens and the Beach Boys. I’m almost certain I was born in the wrong decade!
Favorite indulgence: A glass of pinot grigio, a chunk of gourmet cheese and a few squares of chocolate
Weirdest beauty trick: If you struggle with hair static in the winter time, dryer sheets are the best fix. Rub one over the ends of your locks and on the bristles of your hairbrush and voila!
What inspires you? I’m inspired by traveling to new places. They don’t always have to be far away - even exploring a new corner of my city on a Saturday is inspiring!
How do you spread love in your world? Food is my love language. I love entertaining, hosting people at my house, and cooking meals for friends and family. It’s a small gesture, but a beautiful way to connect and share moments with those I love most.
How can we keep in touch?
