Ahhh summer, I’ve waited for you all year long. I love how everything is so much more relaxed and light, including the daily beauty routine. Now granted, I don’t wear makeup every single day anyway because I work from home. But when I do go out (hi, I’m not Quasimodo), I hate the feeling of a heavy face melting in the sun. Gross. Here are some clean, green picks that will give you that right amount of glow in about 5 minutes without making you look like the matchmaker in Mulan...
The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane:: Let’s start with the last stage of skin prep. This squalane is derived from sugar cane and beets and isn’t diluted with any other ingredient. It feels so much lighter on my skin than your regular plant-based oils so I’m obsessed with it, especially during high temps. After I cleanse/tone/treat, I moisten my fingers with water, add a couple of drops of this, pat together then pat onto my face. I find that little bit of water really helps my skin absorb the squalane and keep moisture locked in.
14e Cosmetics Aloe Nourish Prime + Set Powder*:: After the squalane is fully absorbed, I do a swirl of this powder all over. I don’t know what magic happens, but it’s like the Photoshop blur tool. Perfect base for the rest of my makeup.
Au Naturale Color Theory Creme Corrector:: I have this concealer in Flax and love it. It neutralizes under eye discoloration and acne scars. I like that it gives me a more even base as I move on to the next step.
14e Cosmetics Aloe Nourish Sheer Tint:: Ok so first of all, who doesn’t want more aloe in their life come summer? This paired with the above concealer gives me a nice, natural look without a full-coverage mask look. I’ve worn this (and their regular foundation) during hikes in 90 degree heat and never felt or looked like a melty mess. Plus, it has SPF 10 so yay sun protection! Oh and another swirl of the Prime + Set Powder goes on after this.
RMS Bruti Bronzer:: I dab and blend a bit of this under my cheekbones with my fingers for a little bronzed goddess look. Pro tip: pat some on your eyelids too.
RMS Living Luminizer:: The OG of natural luminizers still lives up to the hype. I apply this liberally on tops of cheekbones, under the brow bone, corners of eyes and Cupid’s bow.
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Ultra-Natural Mascara*:: I always curl my lashes first, usually hitting the curler with my blow dryer for a few seconds to warm it up and help intensify the curl. But full honesty on this mascara: I like it but don’t loooooove it. I like the smaller size of the brush because it gives me more control, allows me to get to the corner lashes and I don’t have issues of getting mascara on my eyelid. The downside for me is that it doesn’t really last all day ot keep the curl super well. I’m always on the hunt for the holy grail of natural mascaras (I rarely buy the same one more than once in my life-long quest), so hmu with your suggestions.
Alima Pure Natural Definition Brow Pencil*:: Plot twist - I use this as eyeliner because I like how the warm dark brown color looks more natural than harsh black. A little smudge along the top lash line is so subtle but brings out my lashes a bit more.
CBD Essentials Lip Balm:: My lips are fairly pigmented so for my everyday look, lip balm is the go-to. I love my Coconut CBD stick because it makes my lips super soft and lasts all. day. long.
So there you have it. Banish the summertime makeup melt and give these lighter options a try. And it really does only take 5 minutes. Have any good warm-weather beauty recs for me? I’m always on the lookout for new products to fall in love with.
